I missed this in yesterday’s Toronto Star:
Rob Ford’s chances of staying in the mayor’s chair for least another couple of months improved with news that lawyer Clayton Ruby won’t be at a Divisional Court hearing Wednesday. That’s where Ford’s lawyer, Alan Lenczner, will urge a judge to stay, or temporarily freeze, Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland’s ruling that the mayor breached conflict of interest rules and must “vacate” his office. If the stay bid fails, Ford’s turbulent two-year mayoralty ends Monday.
Ford’s lawyer will still need to request the stay tomorrow but with no one arguing against it one would think it will be granted. That punts the drama down the road to the Jan. 7 appeal hearing, with a decision coming a few weeks after that.
All sounds reasonable to me. Carry on.
