Along with the new issue of prairie dog comes six brand new album reviews, including Emmet Matheson on Modern Superstitions, John Cameron on Titus Andronicus, Amber Goodwyn on Diamond Rings, Aidan Morgan on Paul Banks and Gillian Mahoney on Bat for Lashes. You should definitely read all of ’em.

Gregory “G-Beat” Beatty also talks about the new record from July Talk. I’ve still only heard this one song from the Toronto band, but I’ll admit to apprehensions. It’s the front man’s voice — G-Beat says it has “a menacing down-and-out drifter vibe” and that it “is right out of the Tom Waits’ school of plaintive, sandpapry seduction” and seemed to generally like the record. For me, the voice is a bit of an obstacle.
