In our Local Music issue last May, Jeffery Straker was one of five musicians who participated in a sit-down chat/interview with James Brotheridge on the trials and tribulations of being a musician in Regina. True, Straker isn’t based strictly in Regina, as he does spend a fair bit of time in Toronto. But no matter where you live it isn’t an easy proposition to survive as a musician, and a ton of hard work is required.

Tonight, Straker is releasing his latest CD Vagabond at the Artful Dodger (1631 11th Ave.). The show should get going around 8 p.m., and tickets are $15 adv. and $20 door. To give you a sense of what the new album is like, here’s the video for the first single “Birchbark Canoe”:
