My beautiful wife and I bought our current home 20 years ago, in ward 6, raised our children here, run our business here, we love Ward 6! I’m a hard working blue collar kind of guy, Enjoy solution finding, problem solving. Respected by our council, and community. First elected in 2003, re elected in 06, 09. Thank you for all our support in the past 3 elections.
QUESTION AND ANSWER
1. Briefly, why are you running for council/mayor?
I want to provide experienced leadership to council, during this time, a new mayor, and at least 4 new councillors, we could loose the positive momentum. So please vote!
2. What is the single most pressing issue facing Regina? How would you solve it?
Housing is the largest issue, with Regina’s current situation a 0.6 percent vacancy rate needs to be moved closer to 3 percent. Either get people to leave, not gonna happen, or increase housing. I’m in the process of reviewing the $10,000 incentive grant we currently have, also the 5 year tax abatement solution. A review to see what improvements are needed, also looking into secondary suites, etc.
3. Imagine the Regina Of The Future that you want to help build. What will it look like?
Regina of the future will be designed smarter, more efficient, reflecting the Vision 2020, Canada’s most vibrant, sustainable, inclusive, community where people live in harmony and thrive in opportunity. Since we began using the Vision 2020, our community has changed a lot, housing values, population growth, business boom, housing starts, new apartments, outside investment, etc.
4. Beyond immediate concerns like housing, the stadium and infrastructure renewal, what “big idea” project do you want to work on that nobody seems to be talking about?
No one is talking about it, but, looking at the Tuxedo Innsmore area could be redeveloped to create a brand new neighborhood in heart of our community, move the light industrial to the new GTH.
5. Name something the last council got right.
Since I was on the last council, we got it all right! Council represents the whole community, so decisions are made to provide the best for the most. Sometimes we don’t control everything, underground infrastructure, sewer treatment plant breakdowns etc. but I believe we did our best!
6. Now, point out their biggest mistake.
Biggest mistake, was addressing the sewer plant, issues, differently, balancing cost vrs, smell, we should have added products to oxidize the water, and reduce the smell sooner.
7. What are you reading these days?
My reading is mostly reports, from council, we are working hard on several fronts, also pension information, police reports, by-laws, the list of reading is long!
8. Beyond your residence, do you own any property in Regina or in the immediate area?
We currently only own our home.
