Expansion of the 13th Ave Safeway is now underway. Yesterday, the Bob Boyer mural on the west wall of the strip mall where Safeway is located was destroyed as part of the expansion. If you recall from earlier debate around Safeway’s plan, the mural was deemed to be too costly to save because of all the brickwork and whatnot that would have been needed to be done to dismantle and reconstruct it. And apparently it wasn’t regarded as feasible from a corporate perspective to maintain the wall as part of the expanded store.
