Similar to Emmylou Harris, who will be in Regina for a headlining gig at the Folk Festival on Aug. 12, Judy collins has had a long and storied career as a musician going back to the heyday of folk music in the 1960s.
That’s the genre Collins cut her teeth in (after studying classical piano as a child), but throughout her career she’s embraced other types of music like pop, country and rock.
Tonight, she’s in town to play a show at Casino Regina (8 p.m. $25, $30.) Here’s video from 1993 of Collins performing “Amazing Grace” with the Harlem Boys Choir:
Also on today, Summer Smackdown 3, which sees PBDC Gravediggers take on SESRDA Hillbilly Hurt in women’s roller derby. The action takes place at the Callie Curling Club near the airport, with the first whistle blowing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door, with kids ten and under admitted free. Tickets are available at Flaman Fitness, World of Trout’s downtown and Southland Mall locations and Fresh & Sweet.
