For a number of years now, New Dance Horizons has hosted this summer fundraiser that involves self-guided day-time and nocturnal tours of local gardens along with special dance performances. As always, there’s a theme, and in recognition of Regina just having commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1912 Regina Tornado, this year it’s wind.
Of course, wind on the prairies isn’t exactly dependent on tornadoes. On the Fujita scale that measures tornado intensity, the smallest tornadoes (F0) have winds between 64-116 k.p.h. The lower end of that range qualfies pretty much as a breezy day in the Queen City. Regardless, wind obviously has a significant impact on the natural environment and our human-made gardens.
This year, there’s two free locations. The first features a fabric instllation on a garden theme at New Dance Horizons at 2207 Harvey St. The second is at Government House (4607 Dewdney Ave.), where there will be 15 minute performances on the hour between noon and 3 p.m. in the Edwardian Garden located there.
Garden of Wind runs July 13-15. Tickets are $40 and can be obtained by calling 525-5393 or visiting NDH’s Secret Gardens Tour website.
