1 TRAGEDY AT U OF A A robbery after midnight today has left three dead at the University of Alberta. Information is still sorted out, although some are questioning the effectiveness of the U of A’s communication with its students during and following the incident.

2 AMERICA HAS DREAM Or at least President Obama will be enforcing the DREAM Act via executive action. From Roll Call:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the new policy, effective immediately, will grant the people eligible for the program renewable, deferred action on their immigration status and the ability to apply for work authorization. In a conference call, Napolitano said she was exercising prosecutorial discretion that is already afforded the department. The DREAM Act would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrant children who go to college or join the military, but it has been blocked in Congress.

5 FOR ALL YOU NERDS Joe Cornish, director of the incredibly entertaining British flick Attack the Block, is set to write and direct a big screen adaptation of Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash. I never made it through the cyber-punk classic, but I feel like Cornish could make all the outlandish elements of that story gel.
