No less than 14 bands with Saskatchewan roots will be taking the stage tonight in Regina. At Bushwakker, its the annual Sask Sampler, where seven acts will compete for spots in three summer musical festivals: Ness Creek (July 19-22 near Big River), Gateway (July 27-29 in Bengough) and Regina Folk Festival (Aug. 10-12 in Victoria Park).
The competing bands include Young Benjamins, Julia & Her Piano, Susu Robin, Fountains of Youth, Kacy & Clayton, Poor Nameless Boy and Tabby Grass & the Down Home Boys. The showcase starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $7.
At the Artesian, the alt-country band the Lonesome Weekends will be launching a new CD. They’ll be backed up by a band called Young James, and the show starts at 8 p.m. (tickets $12 adv., $15 door, and that includes a post-show party at the German Club).
Finally, five acts with local ties will be releasing new CDs at the Distrikt. They’re all on Soccermom Records, and the bands include Jason Plumb & the Willing (pictured), Dan Silljer Band, Cody Gamracy, Creosote and Jeff McLeod Trio. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $25.
