Hailing from Winnipeg, John K. Samson has carved out a pretty decent music career for himself. In the late 1980s and early ’90s, he played bass for the punk band Propaghandi. From 1997 on, he’s been the principal songwriter and front man for the folk punk band The Weakerthans. He also has a solo thing going, and tonight he’s in town as part of the Regina Folk Festival Concert Series to play a show at the Exchange (doors at 7:30 p.m., tickets $17 adv., $22 door.) Backing up Samson tonight is Shotgun Jimmie. He was in town last March, when he played a show with Christine Fellows. What’s unique about those two gigs, as I alluded to in the 14 Days top six in our March 22 issue, is that Fellows happens to be married to Samson.
