Of Hungarian descent, Franz Liszt (pictured) was born on Oct. 22, 1811. Do the math, and 2011 translates into the 200th anniversary of his birth. To celebrate the brilliant career of the composer/pianist, who died in 1886, the Regina Symphony Orchestra is presenting this Masterworks concert with guest artist Helen Kashap (a former Saskatoon resident, as it happens, who has been attracting international acclaim for her skill as a pianist).
Featured on the program will be two compositions by Lizst — Piano Concerto #2 and Hungarian Rhapsody #2, along with works by Bartok and Kodaly.
The concert is at Conexus Arts Centre at 8 p.m.
To close, here’s video from 2010 of Kashap performing an etude by Chopin.
