This is the second incarnation of an event that started last year during the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ season-long centennial. It was held, in part, to officially open two exhibitions on the Riders organized by the Dunlop Art Gallery and Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (that’s the catalogue for the two shows pictured at left).
With the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in town for their annual Labour Day clash with the Riders, this has always been a big football weekend in the city. I don’t know if there’s plans to make this an annual event, but its being held again this year in Victoria Park from 1-3:30 p.m. today.
The Dunlop exhibition closed last November, but the Sports Hall of Fame show is still up. It’s just across the street from the park, so if you get a chance check it out along with all the other family-friendly stuff that will be going on in the park itself.
As for the game tomorrow, Rosie will be in attendance. I don’t know if he plans to live Tweet it like he did the Aug. 12 game against the Stamps, but he’ll be filing a report of some sort on the game. Will the coaching changes that the Riders made spark the team? And even if they do, will it be enough to defeat the red-hot Bombers who currently boast a 7-1 record? We’ll find out tomorrow.
