Violence on the streets of London may not be good for the city’s image, but it’s a great inspiration for musicians. In fact, some of the best punk and new wave songs are actually a call for public unrest.
The Sex Pistols’ “Anarchy in the U.K.” is the anthem of the disenfranchised, and it’s particularly applicable now that riots have erupted in other areas of the country.
Then there is The Clash, with the equally transfixing “London Calling”.
Lastly, The Smith combined their rebelious spirit with their hatred for DJs in “Panic”.
