Handsome Furs will be on our cover Thursday — the Canadian indie rock duo plays the Exchange on July 16 and it sounds like it’s going to be a hell of a show. The band is Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and Alexei Perry.
Boeckner seemed like a genuinely nice guy when he spoke with James Brotheridge recently. Here’s a short excerpt from their interview.
Brotheridge: What is that philosophy you guys shared?
Boeckner: Ever since I was kid, I was influenced by bands like Fugazi and sort of post-hardcore stuff. It’s just you play as hard as you can every time you’re up on stage. You play anywhere someone asks you to play a show. You should be flattered to do it. You should be flattered that people want to pay money to see what you do. As an artist –– and this is just my philosophy –– but you’re in a very privileged position that people would come pay to see what you do onstage, so you should do the best show that you can.
