This afternoon, the NHL board of governors approved the sale and move of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg. All that’s left is for the cheque to clear, and that should happen tomorrow.
One pleasing sign of the sixth seventh Canadian team’s reality is the arrival of the still-unnamed team’s official Web page on NHL.com. Yup, almost brings a tear to this old guy’s eye.
Now all they have to do is name the team the Winnipeg Jets (none of this “Manitoba” nonsense, please!) and I’ll buy a jersey and even consider switching my longstanding allegiance away from my lovable, loseable Columbus Blue Jackets. Jackets. Sigh! <3
