Before a deluge of evening election posts go up, let’s have something about an uncontroversial topic: religion!
So. In general, people who don’t believe in God are nicer. In general. Not you, you cute little theists reading this. You’re swell. (Probably.)
But come on, this isn’t really surprising, is it? Especially to anyone who’s followed the blatherings and bombings of ultra-religious zealots in the news over the years. From The Washington Post:
A growing body of social science research reveals that atheists, and non-religious people in general, are far from the unsavory beings many assume them to be. On basic questions of morality and human decency — issues such as governmental use of torture, the death penalty, punitive hitting of children, racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, environmental degradation or human rights — the irreligious tend to be more ethical than their religious peers, particularly compared with those who describe themselves as very religious.
The rest is here. Give it a read then discuss in the comments, if you like.
Now here’s a mean Family Guy clip about religion. It’s funny because it’s true.
Oops, that wasn’t very nice at all…
