WIKILEAKS, CANADA AND THE BEAST TO THE SOUTH Some very interesting but not hugely surprising info on Liberals, Conservatives and Canada-U.S. relations.

A BRUTAL AND SICKENING DRUG WAR MASSACRE IN GUATEMALA HAPPENED SUNDAY BUT I JUST LEARNED ABOUT IT LAST NIGHT I’d suggest not even clicking this link.

AN NHL TEAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRST The world championship San Francisco Giants will shoot a video for the It Gets Better project, an anti- anti-gay initiative that has already attracted for videos from celebrities and politicians from Barack Obama to Jack Layton (no Stephen Harper yet). It Gets Better, founded by sex advice columnist and unwitting prairie dog mentor Dan Savage, is a collection of YouTube videos that offer support for gay teens struggling with rampant homophobia and bullying. Savage and his husband launched the site after several bullied gay teens killed themselves in the fall of 2010. I’ll post the video when it’s up.

IN OTHER GLBT NEWS An NBA executive comes out of the closet. Oh my god! What will Brad Trost, Maurice Vellacott and Tom Lukiwski say? There’s homosexuals everywhere! It’s like it’s… commonplace and even boring! Maybe it’s even, like, a normal thing for a big share of the population! Why, it’s getting to the point where expressing ideas like “being gay is a choice”, and opposing same-sex marriage, is starting to look like a sign of mental illness! Gosh!

BABY DADDY Turns out Arnold Schwarzenegger had a kid with someone other than his soon-to-be ex-wife. Well, there are worse accidental dads to have.

EXTREME CONDITIONS High winds could cause bad forest fires in Saskatchewan. How bad? Alberta bad.

IF I DIDN’T POST THIS THEY’D REVOKE MY COMIC NERD CREDENTIALS The teaser trailer is out for Steven Spielberg’s and Peter Jackson’s Tintin movie. Tintin is a classic and beloved series of books by the late Belgian cartoonist Herge, and follows an adventure-seeking teen with virtually no personality who’s surrounded by an foible-packed supporting cast. On the down side, I am 100 per cent confident Spielberg and Jackson will overlook the best qualities of the books (at least one of which, Tintin In Tibet, is a true comics masterpiece written for adults). On the plus side, I’ll bet there won’t be any racist caricatures of blacks and maybe they’ll add a female character. Have a look, what do you guys think? (Barb? Are you a Tintin person?)
