Not to be confused with the classic 1988 Sonic Youth double album of the same name (although I suspect there are thematic resonances), Daydream Nation is a low-budget Canadian movie about a teenage girl (Kat Dennings) who moves to a decidedly weird small town with her widowed father.
How weird is the town?
Well, whenever the townsfolk contemplate some progressive development in their community, pretty much their only concern is the effect it’ll have on parking. Oh, and there’s a serial killer on the loose. And some sort of industrial fire burns continuously on the outskirts of town.
Daydream Nation screens tonight and Saturday night at the RPL Theatre at 7 p.m. and Friday and Sunday at 9 p.m. Here’s Jorge’s review. And here’s the trailer.
