I was just a kid when The Guess Who were in their prime in the late ’60s so only found out about them later. Burton Cummings (pictured) was the singer, of course, and Randy Bachman played guitar.
In the ’70s, I was a big fan of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I didn’t mind Cummings’ solo work either. I even saw him in concert at the Centre of the Arts in ’78 or so. Tonight, Cummings returns to the very same venue (now named Conexus Arts Centre) for a show at 8 p.m. For ticket info call 525-9999.
Also on tonight, acclaimed local country chanteuse Belle Plaine is performing at Creative City Centre (1843 Hamilton St.) with Dave Lang at 8 p.m. It’s an all-ages/licensed gig. Tickets are $15 adv., $20 door. Then tomorrow night they’ll do it again, only this time Dave Lang will headline and Belle Plaine will open.
Finally, tonight at the Distrikt Canadian hardcore band Cancer Bats are playing with Three Inches of Blood and Barnburner & Waster. Tickets are $15 adv., $20 door. To close, here’s the video for the Cancer Bats’ tune “Sabotage.”
