HOMOPHOBIARIFFIC! Hey, good news! Uganda’s evil law that made homosexuality punishable by death and lynching has been left to die a lonely, unloved death by Parliamentary abandonment. The “kill the gays” bill, by the way, bears the homophobic DNA of anti-gay American evangelicals, so there’s another reason to be mad at those guys. On the down side, fear and intolerance of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender youth is apparently still common in Canadian schools. So that sucks. Also full of suckery: a lot of the comments after this article.

FIGHT THE FLUORIDATION Saskatooners do not like government messin’ with their water. And they’re going to do something about it. And I bet we’re going to write about it next issue.

GADDAFI LIVES! And he’s gloating about it. This is not going to end well for him.

MORE ON INSITE It’s proven that safe injection facilities save lives, and the Canadian government’s court case is an action by politicians who are either too arrogant to accept evidence that conflicts with their beliefs or they’re pandering to ignorant and/or malicious and irrational supporters. But don’t just take my word for it — here’s an excerpt from an open letter by five former British Columbia mayors and the current mayor, Gregor Robertson, asking the feds to back off.:

Since opening in 2003, Insite has proven – beyond a doubt – its worth to our community. Scientific research confirms the facility reduces high-risk behaviours that lead to the transmission of deadly diseases such as HIV and AIDS. Insite has been shown to reduce public disorder, as well as increasing entry into addiction treatment and detox programs. Most recently, research released in The Lancet, the internationally respected medical journal, revealed that Insite has significantly reduced overdose deaths in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. In addition, independent research has shown that Insite saves money. Taken together, the available evidence unequivocally demonstrates that Insite is a key component of the Four Pillars approach, which includes prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement.
