Harlem is in New York. But the Globetrotters were actually founded in Chicago in 1926 and were known as Chicago Globetrotters. Under the direction of businessman Abe Saperstein they became the New York Harlem Globetrotters in 1928, and the Harlem Globetrotters in 1929.

Over the years, they’ve played in excess of 20,000 games in 118 countries. While the Globetrotters typically play a stooge team like tonight’s opponent at Brandt Centre, they have played a number of games against top-ranked NCAA men’s teams and the odd NBA squad (the latter before the colour barrier was broken).  In their 85 years of existence, the team has lost a grand total of 345 games. That gives them a winning percentage of 98 per cent.

Tip-off is 7 p.m. And here’s a taste of what you can expect.
