Set in 1483, this U of R student production of Normand Chaurette’s 1990 play opens with the reigning British monarch King Edward on his death bed. Plotting to take over the throne is his younger brother Richard (pictured). To do so, Richard had to imprison Edward’s two young sons, and carry out all sorts of skullduggery that Shakespeare wrote about in his play Richard III.
Chaurette’s play focuses on six noblewomen — the “Queens” of the royal families of York, Lancaster, and Plantagenet — who simultaneously were battling against each other to win the favour of the new monarch.
