The Novia Cafe is a long-standing institution in downtown Regina. Fronting 12th Ave. across from Victoria Park, it’s been hit pretty hard by all the construction that’s been going on for the planned City Square Project.

Once the Square is complete, the cafe will be well-positioned to take advantage of increased activity in the area. For the time being, though, its suffering a downturn in business.

To help the Novia out, a group of local muscians are getting together tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to perform at the cafe. Included will be Belle Plaine, Brandy Moore, Dustin Ritter and more. So if you happen to be in the area, stop in for something to eat and listen to them perform.

And be sure to check out the art on the walls too. It’s by the late Roger Ing (pictured with Regina 5 member Art McKay on the far left) who ran another legendary Regina eatery on Dewdney Ave. called Utopia Cafe. The show draws on work collected by Jack Severson over the years, and will be on display until summer.

Musically tonight, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald is playing at the Exchange. Also on the bill are local pop rockers Carl & the College Kids. To close, here’s the video for Fitzgerald’s “Care For You“.
