I’ve complained about the name of this festival before. It might be wishful thinking, but I’d much rather it be called the Late-Winter Blues Festival, because if we’re only midway through winter that means we won’t see spring until May. And that’s just too depressing a thought to contemplate.
One thing you can’t complain about though is the quality of the musical talent. Kicking things off tonight at 8 p.m. at Casino Regina it’s Johnny Winter headlining with the Richie Pollack Trio and Harpdog Brown & Graham Guest also performing (Tickets are $40).
Tomorrow night at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum at 8 p.m. Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown will headline with Jack Semple, Big Dave McLean (pictured) & the Muddy Tones and MonkeyJunk also performing ($30).
Saturday night, the festival returns to Casino Regina with performances by Canned Heat, Brent Nielsen and Rod Piazza & Muddy Flyers ( 8 p.m. $40).
Remember too that Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. there’s a free Blues Showcase at Bushwakker Brew Pub featuring Ray Eberle, Judd, Dan Silljer and The Third Alarm Blues Band.
