Don Van Vliet, better known as outsider-music genius Captain Beefheart, passed away today.
He quit music in frustration following 1982’s Ice Cream for Crow, to the detriment of fans everywhere. Let’s hope that that his retreat to the desert along with his wife to focus on his painting gave him more satisfaction that his amazing albums did.
