Adapted from a 2006 novel by Ned Vizzini, this 2009 comedy kind of has a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest vibe. But instead of a petty thief seeking refuge in a mental institution, it’s a teenage boy stressed by the pressures of everyday life.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) for him, the youth ward is closed. So he’s placed in the adult ward, where he makes the aquaintence of a character played by Zach Galifianakis who becomes his sage and mentor.
It’s Kind of a Funny Story plays tonight at the RPL Theatre at 9 p.m. Here’s the trailer. And yeah, mental illness is an infinitely bigger bitch than this movie portrays. But as far as Sunday nights in mid-December in Regina go, it could be worse.
