Here’s another recent example of an art work being removed from view out of concern it might offend public sensitivities. This occured in Los Angeles, and involved a mural by the internationally renowned street artist BLU that the Museum of Contemporary Art commissioned for an Art in the Street Festival but then decided erase.

In the U.S., annual military spending is over $700 billion. That translates into a pretty healthy military-industrial complex (to borrow a phrase from former U.S. General/President Dwight Eisenhower). And when the U.S. deploys its military, it’s generally in the service of a broader geopolitical strategy aimed at preserving the wealth and power of privileged interests in the U.S. and allied countries.

Apparently, that’s not a fit subject for artistic comment.
