Got a few things going on tonight. As I noted yesterday, Golden Apple Theatre’s production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris is premiering at Artesian on 13th.
At the university, the Theatre Department is presenting a student production of a play by Craig Wright called The Unseen. It’s got a really far-fetched plot, something about a totalitarian regime and people being imprisoned and tortured for unknown crimes. As if that would ever happen. Anyway, The Unseen runs Nov. 18-20 at the Shu-Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Adults $15, Students & Seniors $10, U of R students with ID Free. For info call 585-5571.
Also on tonight at the Mackenzie Gallery, it’s Thursday Night Live! Planned, I believe, is a performance by poet/singer-songwriter Tara Dawn Solheim and music by Rye ‘N’ the Vats that’s tied to the exhibition Real Life by Ron Mueck and Guy Ben-Ner. Finally, at the Exchange tonight there’s a show by indie stalwart Jason Collett (pictured). A long-time member of the Toronto collective Broken Social Scene, Collett also has a thriving solo career. In March, he released his fifth solo album Rat a Tat Tat. Here’s the video for “Love is a Dirty Word” off that disc. Backing him up is Maritime troubadour Al Tuck.
