It’s been a long time since there was anything playing at the IMAX Theatre that wasn’t a documentary. And often it has been an old documentary but all that has changed now thanks to the new IMAX 3-D projector that was installed in October.
Between November 25, 2010 to January 9, 2011 Avatar: Special Edition 3D is going to be playing in IMAX 3D.
From the press release:
The Saskatchewan Science Centre today announced that the Kramer IMAX Theatre will be showing Avatar: Special Edition 3D for a limited engagement from November 25, 2010 to January 9, 2011.
James Cameron’s Oscar-winning, blockbuster film, Avatar was re-released earlier this year with eight minutes of additional footage not seen in the original release. It tells a tale of a reluctant hero who embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization in an epic action adventure fantasy.
“Avatar: Special Edition was a logical choice and considered a fan favourite when we were selecting feature length 3D films for the newly upgraded IMAX theatre,” says Sandy Baumgartner, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Science Centre. “The amazing special effects combined with exceptional technology provides a truly unique and immersive film experience, making Avatar an ideal choice for our large screen format.”
