Hailing from Newfoundland, Great Big Sea has long been a fan favourite in Regina for their spirited musicianship and energetic stage show. Tonight, they’re performing at Conexus Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tix are $39.50 and $55.50. To get you in the mood, here’s video of the band performing   “Night Patty Murphy Died”.

Also starting tonight is a three-day film festival at the University of Regina exploring human rights around the world. The screenings will take place tonight, Wednesday and Thursday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom Building 112. Each night, someone with special knowledge of the situation being explored in the film will speak after it screens.

Tonight its the documentary Ghosts, which looks at three Muslim Canadians who were detained and tortured after 9/11. Wednesday,it’s the Oscar-nominated Burma VJ Airs which examines the work being done by Burmese journalists to expose oppression in their country. Finally, on Thursday, it’s Under Rich Earth. It documents the struggle of several small communities of sugar cane and coffee farmers in Ecuador who took on large companies who wanted to take over their lands for mining.
