I could never work as a stockbroker. At least, not like they do it on the floor of a place like the New York Stock Exchange where they act all crazy and yell over top of each other (see picture at left). I assume they still do that. Although probably not as much with all the e-trading that goes on. Regardless, I just don’t love money enough to get all worked up about it.
Not like Atom. He’s the central (sole, actually) character in this play by Anthony Black about a sucessful broker and contented family man who experiences an existential crisis as he contemplates his materially comfortable, but obviously lacking in other aspects, existence.
Produced by Halifax’s 2b Theatre, Invisble Atom is being staged by the Globe Theatre as part of its Shumiatcher Sandbox Series. It runs Sept. 22-23 at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 24-25 at 8 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sept. 25. Tix are $20. For more info call 525-6400.

Also on tonight is the first Philosophy Cafe of the fall season. It’s presented by the University of Regina’s Department of Philosophy, and sees a faculty member offer a short presentation on a philosophical condundrum, with discussion occuring afterward.
It’s at a new location this year. It used to be at Connaught Library. Now it’s downtown at Aegean Cafe (1801 Hamilton). Start time is 7 p.m. Presenting is Ryan Menzec, who will discuss Michael Ignatieff’s Lesser of Two Evils Thesis: An Exploration of Value Pluralism.
