Here’s a link to a review I wrote of this exhibition which ran as part of our Regina Folk Festival coverage in our July 29 issue.

Technically, yeah, this show (which is on at the gallery until Aug. 29) and the RFF are totally unrelated. But in preparation for the former the Dunlop invited Montreal artist Cynthia Girard last January to do a one-week residency where she viewed art from its permanent collection, then made some work in response. (pictured above is Girard’s Feeding the Birds.)

Most of the work Girard selected for inspiration fell into the category of Folk Art. In my review, I drew a parallel between Girard’s contemporary take on Folk Art and the RFF’s long-standing policy of programming a wide variety of acts that don’t adhere to the stereotypical notion of Folk Music.

Like the RFF hopefully was for you, this show is worth checking out.
