This is kind of a transition year for the Regina Folk Festival. With its traditional home of Victoria Park undergoing significant renovations to create a festival plaza on 12th Ave. between Lorne and Scarth St. as part of the downtown revitalization strategy the RFF has had to re-jig some of its day-time stages and revamp its approach to crowd management.
The good news is that city officials, recognizing the close tie that the RFF enjoys with Victoria Park, have consulted with RFF staff to ensure that unexpected surprises will be kept to a minimum when things kick off tomorrow night.
As with previous years, the RFF will feature evening performances on the Main Stage Aug. 6-8, along with free daytime workshops and concerts on Aug. 7-8. The latter is probably an underappreciated aspect of the RFF. Not only is some great talent on display, you also get to enjoy unique collaborations between artists who don’t normally work with each other.
