So far this WMBL season,. the Regina Red Sox have been one of the 11-team league’s top performers. Tonight they open a three game homestand that will pose a real test for them. In town for a game at Currie Field are the Melville Millionaires. Nine and one in their last ten games, they sit first in the East Division with a 19-9 record, one half game ahead of the Red Sox who are 5-5 in their last ten games and have an overall record of 19-10. Then Tuesday and Wednesday the Okotoks Dawgs, who currently lead the West Division with a 20-12 record, are in town for a two-game set.
The Red Sox close out the season July 27 with a game in Yorkton, then it will be on to the playoffs. Traditionally, they haven’t enjoyed much success. But this year, with some strong hitting from the likes of infielder Mitch MacDonald and outfielder David Fox, and solid pitching, the team could challenge perennial powerhouse the Swift Current Indians for the WMBL crown.
