This gig at the Distrikt doesn’t actually happen until tomorrow night, but I already have a pick-of-the-day lined up for July 31, and not a ton of things are happening in Regina tonight, so I decided to give everyone a heads up.

As an actor, Juliette Lewis has a string of impressive films to her credit, including Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear (1991)What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1992) with Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp,  Kalifornia (1993) with Brad Pitt and, of course, her magnum opus — Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers (1994).

In recent years, Lewis has been concentrating more on her music. Last time she was in town, she was fronting a band called the Licks. They called it quits in 2009, and she is apparently playing with a band called The New Romantiques now. Recently, they recorded the album Terra Incognita. I wasn’t able to find any video of her with her new group, but here’s the video for an older tunes of hers with the Licks called “Hot Kiss”

Doors tomorrow night at the Distrikt are at 9 p.m. Tix are $22.

Heads Up #2: With the Queen City Ex set to run Aug. 4-8, the annual parade is being held tomorrow morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Because of the construction on 12th Ave. by Victoria Park., the parade will bypass the downtown this year. Instead, it will start at Cameron St. and run east on Dewdney Ave. all the way up to Broad St., then it will proceed south on Broad, winding up at the Tartan Curling Club on Broadway Ave. as usual.

As far as live music goes tonight, the Hot Blood Bombers are playing at O’Hanlon’s Pub. Backing them up are Agonal and Obey the Fist.
