Pictured are a couple of shots from a contest that was held last August in downtown Regina. At stake were two tickets to the sold-out AC DC show at Mosaic Stadium on Aug. 24, along with some band memorabilia and a nifty electric guitar.
With Bon Jovi set to rock Mosaic Stadium on July 28, Regina Downtown and its associated sponsors are holding another contest with tickets to the concert, a Yamaha guitar and other great prizes up for grabs.
As far as popularity goes, I wouldn’t put Bon Jovi in the same class as AC DC. Still, the New Jersey power pop band has its share of fans. So competition should be fierce. Just come dressed in your best ’80s gear, says the Regina Downtown website, and be prepared to rock out on Guitar Hero. Chords (of both the guitar and vocal variety) will get shredded starting at noon at Hill Centre Tower II on the Scarth St. Mall. But if you’re going to compete, it’s probably best to arrive a little early so you can pre-register.
For readers too young to have experienced the ’80s first-hand, or those whose memories have faded sufficiently that they can no longer recall the decade with much clarity, here’s a time capsule of sorts courtesy of the trailer for the 1988 movie “Bright Lights, Big City”.
