At a time when Waterloo University is embroiled in a controversy over the suspension of its CIS football program after nine players tested positive for steroid use, the university took a giant leap forward in the academic area with the annoucement that renowned British scientist Stephen Hawking had accepted a research position with the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics following his retirement last year from the University of Cambridge in England.
