Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Polonia Polish Folk Dance Ensemble of Regina is hosting the Polish Folk Dance Association of the Americas’ annual festival. Through performances at Mosaic in Regina, and other cultural events across Saskatchewan, Polonia has entertained and inspired thousands of provincial dance enthusiasts over the decades. At this festival they’ll be joined by troupes from across western and central Canada, and as far away as Chicago and New York.
Many of the troupe members are second and third generation Polish immigrants who have worked hard to preserve cultural ties to their homeland. While in Regina, they’ll participate in workshops with choreographers from Poland. On July 1 at 5 p.m., as part of Canada Day celebrations at the RCMP Heritage Centre, the Polonia Ensemble and invited guests will perform.
The festival will culminate with a gala performance at Conexus Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m. on July 3. It will represent one of the largest gatherings of Polish folk dance groups ever held outside of Poland. Adult tix at $21, while for seniors and children under 14 they’re $15.75.
