Yeah, we did. And for that we sincerely apologize. Although as far as fuck-ups in the journalism biz go, you have to admit, it was a classic. And no, I’m not talking about us forgetting to put an asterisk in the band’s name in the preview that James Brotheridge wrote in our May 6 issue (here’s a link, just scroll down a bit).

That’s how the band’s name often appears in more sedate media outlets. But I mean, come on, it’s not like anyone’s fooled when they read F*cked instead of Fucked. So we decided to go with Fucked.

And no, I don’t believe the band’s name is unnecessarily vulgar. Things are fucked up right now. Admittedly, that’s pretty much always been the case. But now we actually have some tools to work with like technology and a civilization capable of moments of great sophistication that could guide us toward more sustainable and equitable future and we can’t muster the political and economic will to take a shot at it.

That is FUCKED UP.

Tonight, the Toronto hardcore rockers play Riddell Centre (the show was supposed to be at the Exchange, but the flood the SCES experienced last week has forced a venue change. Start time remains 7 p.m.) . Here’s the video for their song “Crooked Head” (YouTube)

Backing up Fucked Up is Regina hard rockers Kleins96. Look for a new CD from them, by the way, in late June. It’s called Modern Fortune. It’s got some neat samples and some heavy riffs. So overall, should be a great show.

Tonight, also marks the start of the annual Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre-hosted Spring Festival of New Plays. Dramaturg is Colleen Murphy. Featured will be staged readings of the followeing plays: May 16 R.A. McLean (A Place in the Shade); May 17 Jarrett Rusnak (Really Crude Morally Bankrupt Artistically Devoid But Not Pornographic Crappy Play); May 18 B.D. Miller (Balance of Power); May 19 Margo Regan (Gaudeamus); May 20 Kenneth Williams (Gordon Winter); May 21 Catherine Banks (It is Solved By Walking); May 22 Daniel Macdonald (A History of Breathing).  Riddell Centre, 8 p.m. Free. 306-665-7707.

Finally, at the Fainting Goat tonight at 7:30 p.m. there’s The Tumbleweed Project. It started in Vancouver May 13, with a solo improv show by Tim Carlson. He then hopped in a van and drove to Edmonton where he picked up a second improv artist (Hannah Spear) and did a show there. Then the two of them drive to Calgary where they picked up Meags Fitgerald and performed there. Tonight the trio is in Regina where they will be joined by some local improv artists. After additional stops in Winnipeg, Chicago, Ottawa and Montreal the group will perform at a festival in Toronto.
