Because of the way the calendar works, the Cathedral Village Arts Festival is a full week later this year than it was in 2009. Hopefully that will result in a bit better weather, as last year, if I recall correctly, outside of the Saturday Street Fair, things we’re pretty chilly.

Anyway, this is the 19th annual festival. The theme this year is Doors to Imagination. As usual, the festival kicks-off today with a parade down Elphinstone St. from 13th Ave. to Les Sherman Park at 11:45 am, followed by an afternoon-long picnic. To help you plan your week’s activities at the festival, here’s a link to on-line guide which was included in the May 6 issue of prairie dog.

Also tonight, Swedish death metal gods Dark Tranquillity are playing an all ages show at the Exchange. Doors are at 7 p.m., tix are $18. Also on the bill are Threat Signal, Mutiny Within and the Absence. Here’s Dark Tranquillity’s video for “Shadow in Our Blood” off their 2010 album We Are the Void. (YouTube)
