2. NO PARDON FOR PARDON SYSTEM: The federal Conservatives are vowing to clamp down on the system that allowed a convicted sex offender to be pardoned. Good. I guess. Still, am I the only person worried they will, as usual, take a reactionary mallet to a problem that requires some sober thought and fine tuning? (Globe and Mail)
3. LOONIE MATCHES GREENBACK: The Canadian dollar briefly hit parity with the U.S. this morning. Economists are saying this will be more and more common for the foreseeable future. 4. CANUCKS BUST ONLINE SPIES: Researchers from the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs have uncovered a network of computers that have been stealing sensitive information from around the world. Most notably, military secrets from India and every email the Dalai Lama has received or sent in the last few years. There’s reason to believe the information was being compiled for the Chinese government (although the Chinese government denies it’s behind the spy ring). (Globe and Mail)
5. SGEU GETS WAGE DEAL: The Saskatchewan Government Employees Union ratified a deal for five-and-a-half per cent wage increases for provincial government employees over three years. The deal will also provide some added job security for current employees in the face of the Sask Party’s lay-off spree. (Leader Post)
