If you read the article James Brotheridge did in our April 22 issue on this band’s show tonight at the Exchange you’ll learn that while these brood rockers fronted by husband-and-wife team of Jace Lacek and Olga Goreas are Montreal-based, they have roots in Regina. It’s here that the band got going, in fact, in 2002.
People turning out tonight to welcome them home should be in for a pretty good show. There’s two pretty decent back-up bands too — Hollerado and local favourites Tinsel Trees. Doors at 8 p.m. $14. And in case you missed it, here’s video of The Besnard Lakes’ recent spell-binding performance of their song “And This is What We Call Progress” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
At O’Hanlon’s tonight there’s thunder and lightning. Well, actually lightning and thunder. Flash Lightnin and Black Thunder, to be exact. Former’s Toronto-based , latter’s from Regina. Both are into rock ‘n’ roll.
In contrast to our Sadies screw-up, the preview that Emily wrote on Tanya Tucker (pictured) being at the Casino tonight is correct. And it’s worth reading too. If, like me, you might be tempted to dismiss Tucker as the type of minor-league talent that Americans, with their notoriously pedestrian tastes, elevate to a form of stardom, Emily argues convincingly that Tucker might be an under-appreciated talent. (8 p.m. $45, $50.)
Say what you want about her, she’s definitely a survivor.
